Sunderland keen on Downing, Townsend

Sunderland are interested in signing West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing and Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, according to reports.
The 30-year-old former Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Liverpool player earned a recall to the England set-up last season, playing the first half of the 3-1 friendly win over Scotland in November and could be keen on a return to the North East.
Downing, who scored six times in 42 appearances for the Hammers last season, spent a short spell on loan at Sunderland in 2003.

West Ham paid Liverpool £5million to take him to Upton Park in August 2013 and his current deal runs until the summer of 2017.
Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat is eager to bolster his attacking options with Tottenham winger Andros Townsend also reportedly on the Dutchman's radar, while the Spurs wideman is attracting interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle and Swansea.
The 23-year-old has struggled for first-team football since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino last summer and has been linked with a number of moves away to maintain his favour with England head coach Roy Hodgson.
