Promising defender to extend stay at Arsenal

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is believed to be on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, thus putting an end to the rumours of his permanent departure from the club this summer, according to reports in The Daily Mail.
The 23 year old impressed during his loan stay at West Ham United last season. And with the player not likely to get regular game time at Arsenal anytime soon, it was believed that the Hammers may try signing him permanently in this transfer window.
However, it is believed that the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger still values Jenkinson for the kind of versatile and talented player that he is, and is thus wishful of ensuring that he remains at the club for years to come by making him sign a new long term contract. It is further reported that the player will once again move on loan for the next season after signing the new deal, with the likes of West Ham, Southampton, Sunderland and Stoke City, all reported to be taking a keen interest in him.
Jenkinson certainly has little chance of landing himself game time at Arsenal this season, with the likes of Mathieu Debuchy, Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers, all being considered above him in the pecking order. However, having said that, the fact remains that Wenger views him as a player for the future, who may compete with Bellerin and Chambers, once Debuchy becomes too old and starts showing a decline in form.
