Gerard Pique gave the net he cut down after the Champions League Final to one of his closest friends as a wedding present, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish newspaper explained today the reasons as to why the Barcelona defender continued his bizarre tradition of cutting sections from the net after trophy wins.
Pique has cut down several nets during his trophy-laden Barca career following title victories and cup wins, including last Saturday’s against Juventus in Berlin.
After Barca’s 3-1 victory over the Italian champs in the Olympic Stadium, Pique appeared to take an extra long section of the net.
El Mundo Deportivo reveal that the net has gone to a great friend of Gerrard Pique, who was celebrating his wedding on Saturday.
Pique was unable to attend the wedding due to the fact he is playing for Spain today in Belarus in a Euro 2016 qualifier.
El Mundo confirm that the friend who got hitched, is a lifelong confidant of Pique and one who is very close to the defender.
The net was prominently displayed at the Caves Codorniu wedding, with portions distributed amongst the guests.
