Revealed: Louis van Gaal’s £150m Wish List

Sergio Ramos

Louis van Gaal is expected to spend big for a second consecutive summer as Manchester United manager after successfully qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Dutch manager spent nearly £150 million last summer and could spend more than that this time around if the newspaper reports are anything to go by.
United have already splashed out £25 million on signing exciting PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay and the Daily Mail has today revekaed that van Gaal would like to spend another £150 million on four players.
Van Gaal is expected to add at least four new players between now and the start of next season on 8 August as he looks to strengthen the spine of his team.
The newspaper has highlighted these four players as his main transfer targets:
Jasper Cillessen

Jasper Cillessen (Ajax)

With David de Gea expected to depart for Real Madrid and backup goalkeeper Víctor Valdés seemingly being overlooked, United have been linked to a couple of goalkeepers this summer.
Petr Čech has chosen Arsenal over United and United are finding it difficult to get a bid accepted for Hugo Lloris, so recent reports are suggesting that van Gaal will turn his head towards Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen.
The 26-year-old is valued at a whooping £25 million, despite players from the Dutch Eredivisie often being significantly cheaper.  Van Gaal has already worked with the goalkeeper – he was his first-choice goalkeeper at last summer’s World Cup.
Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

One that CSAR can only take with a pinch of salt at this stage, but long-serving Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the weekend.
United were previously interested in their Raphaël Varane but a deal doesn’t look possible.  Now the 20 times champions of England’s have seemingly switched their focus on the 128-time Spanish international.
The 29-year-old would certainly be an upgrade to the vulnerable defence of last season that was bailed out time and time again by de Gea but would he really want to leave Madrid for Manchester?
Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)

This one we find harder to believe.  Bastian Schweinsteiger is Bayern Munich through-and-though – there’s no way he will leave the Allianz Arena for Old Trafford this summer – you can quote us on that.
Still, the Mail and several other newspapers are linking the 2014 World Cup winner with a move to United.  The German international turns 31 in August but still has a lot to offer despite some serious injuries over the past two seasons.  He’s great at dictating the game from centre midfield and was a vital part of Germany’s success in Brazil, as well as Bayern winning the Champions League in 2013.
Bastian Schweinsteiger to United this summer?  Not a chance.  He’s looking to become the all-time record Bundesliga winner and has more chance of Champions League success by staying put.
Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Another difficult one to believe but one that has more substance than the previous two, is Karim Benzema.
For any chance of this deal to go through though, Real Madrid would need to sign Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero because they do not have a replacement for their current striker.
Benzema is coming off a wasteful season as the central focus at Madrid, but he’s still a very talented striker.  He would do wonders for a United team in comparison to Radamel Falcao.  United have also been strongly linked with Harry Kane.
