Raheem Sterling told to join Liverpool on pre-season tour, as Man City stall on third bid

With Manchester City yet to make a third bid, Raheem Sterling has been told that he must join Liverpool on their pre-season tour of Australia and south-east Asia.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 20-year-old will be expected to join in Brendan Rodgers’ preparations for the new season, after the Reds rejected the first two bids from the Eastlands side.
The news that Sterling remains – for the time-being at least – in Rodgers’ plans will surely act as a message to Manuel Pellegrini that if the Citizens want the player, they will have to meet the £50m price tag that has been slapped on Sterling by the Merseyside club (via The Telegraph).
However, his inclusion in the tour does not give an indication as to whether he remains in Rodgers’ first-team plans for next season. The new signings of Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings, and James Milner will ensure that there is more competition for the attacking roles in the side, that may see Sterling relegated to the bench.
Nevertheless, given the impact his contract dispute seemed to have on their form late on in the last campaign, you would imagine that the Anfield hierarchy are secretly hoping that City meet their valuation at some point.
