Confirmed: Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward signs long-term contract

Liverpool have managed to tie down goalkeeper Danny Ward to a long-term contract on 23 June.

The 22-year-old move to the Merseyside club from Wrexham in 2012 and has been a regular inclusion for the Reds’ Under-21 side, where he has developed himself as a player. Last season he moved out of Anfield on-loan.

“Liverpool FC are pleased to announce that goalkeeper Danny Ward has agreed a new long-term contract with the club,” a statement read on Liverpool’s official website.

“The 22-year-old, who began his career at hometown club Wrexham before moving to Anfield, officially committed his future to the Reds by penning a new deal today.”

“Ward has been a regular fixture between the sticks for the club’s U21 team since making the switch to Merseyside in January 2012.”

Ward joined League Two side Morecambe for a short period of a month in March 2015, before returning to Liverpool in April after making five appearances. After his loan spell, he was included in the first team squad at the end of the 2014-15 campaign by Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool allowed Bard Jones leave on a free transfer in the summer and signed Adam Bogdan from Bolton Wanderers as he was the Reds’ third signing. They also have Simon Mignolet as the Belgium international is Rodgers’ first choice keeper at Anfield.
